Chemical resistance

Compounds can affect the strength, elasticity, surface properties, color, appearance and weight of plastic products. The basic modes of causing these changes are as follows:
(1) Compound disruption of polymer chains, resulting in the absence of physical properties, including oxidation; reaction of functional groups in and on the chain; and depolymerization.
(2) Physical changes, including softening and swelling of the plastic due to solvent uptake; solvent penetration through the plastic; and decomposition in the solvent.
(3) Stress cracking caused by internal and external stresses resulting from the reaction of "stress cracking agents".
